WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT

$50,000 Annually

CURRENT PROJECTS:

BEADING

In 2006, a small group of Maasai women came together and formed a women’s collaborative, enabling them to sell their beadwork to Thomson Safari guests. The program included guidance for women beginning their own business ventures. The supports and trainings have expanded and include beekeeping and honey processing, leather tanning and advanced beading. This allows these women to create new and more intricate items to sell to tourists.

BEEKEEPING -

Our new beekeeping program provides equipment and trains women to build and maintain ground-level hives.  It has been particularly effective now that these women have learned how to store and brand their honey.

Beekeeping was sponsored by Walt and Ann Przygocki in 2023.
The Women's Empowerment program was funded by the Park Foundation in 2024.

The women’s empowerment programs have proven effective as a poverty-reduction tool, and provide opportunities to help build stronger futures for communities.
