Sukenya Health Center - A Long Term Project $410,000

The adage holds true the world around: you have nothing without your health. The Sukenya Dispensary, built in 2015, transformed medical care for this rural community.

The dispensary was so successful that the Tanzanian government asked FOTZC to partner with them to build a comprehensive Health Center.

Completed Projects

Maternity Ward

Although Maasai women have given birth in their thatched huts throughout history, they requested the opportunity to be closer to medical care should they need it.  That's why in 2015 the FOTZC supporters  funded a first-time medical dispensary in the remote village of Sukenya.

In 2023 alone, over 19,000 patients received health care at Sukenya, a staggering number in such a sparsely populated area. Among those patients, 485 infants were safely delivered at the center, a massive improvement over home deliveries where complications too often result in serious illness or even death for the mother or the child

Operating Room

Minor surgeries save patients from the hardship of traveling to a full-service but distant hospital.

Laboratory SPONSORED BY THE TAWINGO FUND IN 2023

A medical laboratory is essential for adequate diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of patients. Currently the health center offers various services including minor surgeries, outpatient services, maternal care, delivery services, family planning services, antenatal care, post-abortion care, vaccination services, tuberculosis treatment, eye care, dental services, counseling services and nutrition services for malnourished children.

Medical Staff Housing

Additional medical staff housing was needed so the Tanzanian government could send doctors, nurses and staff to work in the expanded Sukenya Health Center.  This project included three homes which can accommodate up to six medical staff members.

Typical staff housing – two-in-one units that can house up to six professionals.

In past years, FOTZC has responded to difficult times for our partner communities
by delivering food aid during a drought and COVID-19 supplies during the pandemic.
