PERSPECTIVES - The Things We’re Thankful For

It has been a truly terrific and memorable year at FOTZC. We reflected on virtually eradicating waterborne illness in one of our partner communities and tackling more long-term projects at the Sukenya Health Center. We continued to support our women’s empowerment programs, including new efforts in beekeeping. We established a Tanzanian board of directors. And we celebrated over 25 years of service for people in Northeast Tanzania and beyond—years filled with a wealth of projects and fond memories with faraway friends.

In the spirit of the season, we’re reflecting on a few other things we’ve achieved together.

Breaking Ground on Primary and Secondary School Projects in Robanda

We broke ground on projects for Robanda primary and secondary schools, including a kitchen, dormitory, and 2-in-1 teachers' house. These projects involve huge teams of people setting rebar, pouring concrete, laying stones—it’s hard to envision all the details involved. So, we took some photos of the team breaking ground and setting the foundation.

We’re Bringing Our Projects to Life

As a board, we’ve talked about how, sometimes, it’s hard to reconnect with these special places from travels in years past. Our solution: more video! We’ve redesigned our website to share videos, front and center with you, our partners. Click the images below to see the tremendous things we’ve done over the years.

A First Graduation at Christopher P. Halloran School

In the fall of 2022, we wrote about the completed first round of construction for the Christopher P. Halloran (“CPH”) Primary School. Just recently, the CPH Primary school graduated its first class of students, providing whole new worlds of opportunity for dozens of bright young minds.

The FOTZC board met recently for an in-person celebration with a few of our donors and friends in Watertown, Massachusetts. Present were our first, second, and present Board Presidents, who shared memories of the early, humble roots of FOTZC as well as stories of the broad and significant projects that we’ve completed and those that are to come. Thank you to everyone who spent the evening reconnecting and exchanging fond memories of past adventures.

After being thanked for supporting Focus on Tanzanian Communities, guests listened to an overview of what their donations have accomplished over 25 years

We look forward to expanding our list of projects in the few short weeks ahead to round out a busy and successful year. Read more details in our 2023 Annual Report.
